wordmaker-12569
WordMaker

For use by resource or program support teachers with students whose program plan recommends its use. Word Maker draws on Dr. Patricia Cunningham's research, classroom experiences and approach to teaching systematic phonics and spelling. WordMaker is a phonics, phonemic awareness and spelling computer program students use to manipulate letters to make words and discover spelling and sound patterns. Using a pool of letters, students make many different words using various letter combinations. Students hear an auditory prompt to make a word. They drag letters to blanks, then click the checkmark to get feedback. Contains 140 word manipulation practice lessons. In each lesson, students get 5-10 letters to make 10-12 words plus one more "secret word" that uses all the letters. Spelling and sorting practice is incorporated as well as "transferring" knowledge-students are challenged with a few new words using the same beginning letters or the same rhymes to see if they can transfer what they've learned. Detailed reports tell teachers the lessons students have completed, sounds and words learned, correctly and incorrectly spelled words, how well students transferred learning to new words, time needed for finding words, and how well students completed sorting activities.
