Those who had received Canadian citizenship after 1922 were also deemed enemy aliens. Immediately, the RCMP began making arrests. . In all, about 700 were imprisoned in internment camps, mainly in Ontario and New Brunswick. The impact of this internment was felt immediately by families who lost husbands and fathers, but the effects would live on for decades. Eventually, pressure from the Italian Canadian community led Prime Minister Brian Mulroney to issue an apology for the internment and to admit that it was wrong.      Using historical photographs, paintings, documents, and first-person narratives, this book offers a full account of this little-known episode in Canadian history.    The Righting Canada's Wrongs series is an excellent resource for class discussion and historical perspective-taking.  While it does contain images, graphics, quotes, and propaganda from the time period which may raise concern out of context, within the milieu of historical thinking the images are powerful and thought provoking. To this end, teachers are advised to familiarize themselves with the settings of these books and use them within a responsible and considered environment.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Nova Scotia School Book Bureau","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":43664618618940,"sku":null,"price":34.95,"currency_code":"CAD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0662\/3677\/6508\/files\/9781459400955.jpg?v=1762977235","url":"https:\/\/nssbb.ednet.ns.ca\/products\/righting-canadas-wrongs-italian-canadian-internment-in-the-second-world-war-30881","provider":"Nova Scotia School Book Bureau","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
