This resource allows students to experience the life cycle and decision-making of a person born into a randomly selected nation and socio-economic structure within that nation. It allows the student to progress from birth onward dealing with the events and conditions that arise from this random birth. Real geo-political and socio-economic conditions are applied such that life decisions by the child's family, community and nation impact on the development of the child. At approximately age 10, the child starts to select activities appropriate to their age and circumstance. These choices, along with individual decisions such as remaining in school, or family decisions about fleeing an oppressive regime, for example, contribute to the virtual life of the child. Background information about the nation, the community and the life options are presented as the child advances a year at a time through this virtual life. Applied factors from the United Nations database are the basis for the socio-economic conditions, but the child may be born into poverty or wealth, opportunity or crisis. Race, religion, ethnic background and other factors of the virtual character are well suited to a mix of viewpoints and voices that avoid stereotypes of people or situations. Overall, this software allows students to become immersed in the possible life that in the possible life that they might have if they were born elsewhere or in different circumstances.
