The Blueberry Hill books provide consistent repetition of high frequency vocabulary in the context of natural sounding language. The pattern stories in levels one and two help develop early literacy skills and reinforce basic concepts—shapes, colours, rhyme, numbers, and prepositions. Stories with a beginning, middle, and end start at level three. Also, at levels fifteen and sixteen the book size increases. The recurring characters create stories filled with humour and excitement up through the levels. The inside front cover of each storybook contains a sample introduction and outlines tricky parts as well as suggestions for \"Working with Words.\" After a book has been read, the comprehension questions on the inside back cover can be used to foster discussion about the story and for language development.     The language structures used in the books were carefully selected to provide opportunities for language development.
